National Siblings Day 2018 | Jacksonville Birth Photographer
Siblings are one of the best parts of my job.
Every time a new baby comes into a family, things shift and change. The family as it existed before is frozen in time, and a fuller, more complex, more love-filled family emerges. It is said that a sibling is the longest relationship you'll ever have, and what a blessing that is.
This is my little brother! How did the person who was once the definition of annoying, the breaker of my ballerina jewelry box, and the ultimate button-pusher turn into one of my best friends and comrade in parenting? Happy #nationalsiblingsday Curtis!
I pulled together some of my favorite recent sibling images from birth, just born, and lifestyle newborn sessions to share with you all. Enjoy!
Lots of siblings, lots of love.
This little peanut has three big brothers and one big sister! It was so wonderful coming to their home for a lifestyle family session and photographing them just a week after I photographed his birth. It's amazing how one little baby can bring so much love and happiness to a family!
Sweet sisters, one in heaven and one on earth.
My heart flutters every time I look at these images. I photographed this family's oldest daughter when she passed away in 2016 through Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, and they asked me to come to their home for a lifestyle newborn session when their precious rainbow baby was born. They had a very special bear, weighted to exactly the same weight as the baby they lost, and matching onesies for these sweet sisters. Baby Catherine, who had fussed during much of our session together (as brand new babies do!), calmed down so quickly when she was placed next to her sister's bear. It's like she knew her big sister was watching over her.
Meet the baby!
After a long, incredible evening witnessing this strong mama bring her third child into the world, I had the privilege of being there to document the very first time that her older children met their baby brother. Big sister was just so happy to be snuggled up with her mama again, and big brother didn't quite know what was going on at first...but he was definitely excited!
Pink and pretty, sweet and silly.
Obviously this Just Born session was a favorite of mine, as this beautiful family is featured all over my website! Mom gently placed her littlest love in the arms (and Boppy!) of her oldest daughter and it was as if these two sisters had known each other forever. Big sister was so gentle with her newborn sister and loved wiggling soft toys in front of her face. (But little sister was more interested in her own tiny fingers! So cute!)
